ICC Cricket World Cup trophy arrived in the capital on Wednesday morning on a four-day visit to Bangladesh as part of its journey around the globe.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu predicted that Bangladesh National Cricket Team will gift the nation a fabulous result in the coming ICC World Cup 2018 as he unveiled the trophy of ICC World Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital on Wednesday. While unveiling the trophy, Bangladesh’s first World Cup man of the match hoped that Bangladesh might be able to celebrate with the much coveted trophy in the coming year as Tigers’ might turn out to be a strong candidate for the title of ICC World Cup 2019.
“The way, in which we are advancing in international cricket has increased our hopes for a good result in the coming World Cup. The word ‘World Cup’ has a significance of its own. It always inspires youngsters. It is my belief that we will bring in a good result in World Cup 2019,” said Nannu.
Carrying the trophy, a flight of Emirates Airways landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40am.
After the unveiling at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the morning, there was a photo session with underprivileged children at 10:30 am and another photo session with Bangladesh National Cricket team at 12 noon.
After a series of tragedies in the final of some major tournaments, Bangladesh have appeared to be a strong contender for the title of ‘chokers’. Minhajul had a different opinion on the issue and views these failures in the finals as temporary which are preparing Bangladesh for a major tournament title.
“Cricket is one such game where any team might appear to fail in crossing the final barrier in big tournaments. Eventually they start winning tournaments taking inspiration from these failures. As we have a very experienced team and we are already accustomed to playing finals, I believe that we will achieve much better result in the coming World Cup,” concluded Minhajul. The cricket fans in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram will get the opportunity to see the 64cm trophy weighing 10.80 kgs in their respective cities under a Unicef Bangladesh programme before it leaves Bangladesh on October 21.
