An investigation into a theft incident busted an illegal firearms trading racket with the recovery of five firearms.

The members of Chawkbazar Police Station carried out the work, said Additional Commissioner (Crimes and Ops) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Dr Kh Mohid Uddin at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Sunday. 

He said that on 12 April, a theft incident was committed at a house at East Islambagh.

A case was filed with the police station in this regard on 20 April.

According to the senior police officer, during investigation into the case, police arrested Mirza Hossain, 35, Mohammad Mamun, 34, Mohammad Saimon, 30, Amit Hasan Yasin, 21, Barun, 50, Hasina Begum, 57 and Jamila Khatun Happy, 18, from the area.


The information of the arrestees helped the cops arrest Razib Hossain Rana, 28, with a foreign pistol and seven bullets.

On April 22, another case was filed with the police station under the Arms Act-1887.

During interrogating Rana on remand, police extracted important information on the firearms.

The members of the police station conducted drives and nabbed Shahin, 40, whose information helped the cops arrest Abul Hasan Sujon, 25, with a foreign pistol with five rounds of bullet from Swarighat area. 

Based on information provided by Shahin, police conducted a raid on a house in Pannitola, Kotwali, and apprehended Parvez Noor, aged 38, in possession of a firearm and 22 bullets.

After that, as per the information of Sujon, police raided a house owned by a fugitive accused Rashid Mia at Kolatia in Keraniganj and recovered a firearm and two cartridges.

Another case under the Firearms Act was lodged against Shahin, Sujon, Noor and some others at the police station on April 23.

The information obtained from them helped police conduct a raid at Alirghat in Chawkbazar and arrest Manik Chandra Das, 36, with foreign pistol, two rounds of bullet and magazine.
A case was filed against Manik with the police station under the Arms Act on 27 April.
