Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold three-week long fresh countrywide demonstrations from April 1 to realise their 10-point demand, including resignation of the incumbent Awami League government.

The demands also include protesting against the price hike of essential commodities and utilities.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at an iftar party hosted by the party for orphans and alems at Ladies Club in Eskaton of the capital on Friday.

As per the announcement, the BNP and its likeminded parties will simultaneously stage sit-in programmes in metropolitan cities and districts from 2:00pm till 4:00pm on April 1 while in thana areas of metropolitan cities and thanas of district and upazilas from 3:00pm on April 8.

The party will distribute leaflets with description of corruption during the Awami League regime, their 10-point demand and 27- point state reform proposals, in union parishad areas across the country from 4:00pm till 6:00pm on April 9 to 13.

Leaflets will also be distributed in Rangpur division on April 9, in Rajshahi and Sylhet on April 10, in Khulna and Cumilla on April 11, in Dhaka and Barishal on April 12 and in Mymensingh and Faridpur divisions on April 13.

On the other hand, the party will hold separate view exchange meetings with people from all walks of life in all metropolitan cities, districts, upazilas, thana areas, union and ward areas of the country from March 28.

In his speech, Mirza Fakhrul also urged the mass people to be united to wage movement to oust the incumbent Awami League government and forming a people’s parliament through holding election under the non-party caretaker government.

“In the current political situation of the country, we have to announce these political programmes during the month of Ramadan to continue our movement,” he said.
