An art exhibition on the urban problems of Dhaka titled ‘Urban Issues of Dhaka: An Artistic Gaze’ began at La Galerie of Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD). The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at 5.30pm on Friday.
More than 19 paintings and sculptures of eminent and young artists are being showcased at the exhibition. Besides, 30 artworks from school children from deprived areas of Dhaka city have been put on display at the show.
The exhibition is a unique juxtaposition of art and urban research. This is an outcome of a year-long creative engagement with 10 artists and 30 school children who has found Dhaka’s crucial urban problems.
The exhibition is a part of an impact activity conducted by the GCRF Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC). SHLC is an international research consortium of eight partners studying urbanisation and sustainable development challenges of 14 cities in Asia and Africa. Bangladesh (Khulna University) is the partner of this consortium and research in Dhaka and Khulna.
The exhibition will continue till June 7.
