Awareness programme held in Sirajganj to combat child marriage

Emphasising the message “Not child marriage, education and dreams shall shape our future,” an awareness meeting on preventing child marriage was held at Mirpur High School in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sirajganj district unit of and took place in a classroom on the school premises.

Dr KH Murad, president of the Sirajganj unit and a social worker, spoke at the event along with General Secretary Ashkar Pine, Vice President Asha Sarkar, and Organisational Secretary Ismail Hossain.

Students are getting trained for Awareness regarding Child Marriage

Speakers said child marriage remains a serious social problem despite growing awareness. Many families still cling to this harmful practice, they noted, adding that adolescent girls are the worst victims. 

The added, early marriage forces girls to drop out of school, weakens them physically, affects their mental health, and often leads to broken families, they added.

Assistant teachers Sirajul Islam and Fauzia Akter were present at the event, along with Shuvosangho adviser and Kaler Kantho multimedia reporter Rabbi Hasan Hridoy, Treasurer Rasheda Parvin, Executive Members Rashedul Hasan Setu, Imran Hossain, Nuruzzaman, local dignitaries, and students.
