Ershad Ullah, BNP’s enlisted potential candidate for the February elections, was shot by miscreants on the campaign trail in Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram city around Wednesday evening.
Ershad, BNP's convener in the port city, has been admitted to the city's Evercare Hospital with the bullet injuries. He is now out of danger, BNP activists have said.
An alleged terrorist named Sarwar Hossain alias Babla, 43, was killed in the attack while another man named Shanto was also injured.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police's North Zone Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam confirmed the incident.
On Monday, BNP named Ershad as the potential candidate for the Chattogram-8 constituency in the district. The constituency includes the Boalkhali and Chadgaon upazilas.
Assailants allied with terrorist Chhoto Sajjad, who was already in prison, likely carried out Wednesday’s attack targeting Sarwar Babla, according to police sources.
