Ctg reports 3 more corona deaths

CHATTOGRAM: Three more patients have died of Covid-19 in the district in 24 hours till Monday morning.  All of them were from different upazilas in the district.

Besides, 225 more patients tested corona positive during the same period.

Of the infected patients, 131 were from the city and 94 from different upazilas.

Sources in the Chattogram district Civil Surgeon office said that a total of 915 samples were tested at the 11 laboratories and 225 of them were found as positive in the 24 hours.

A total of 645 people died and 55,032 were infected with the virus in the port city.

Of them, 43,525 were from the city and 11,507 from different upazilas.

Mentionable, a total of 46,138 patients also recovered from the disease in the district till Sunday.

On the other hand, two cases of Indian variant (Delta variant) were found in Chattogram after Dhaka.

Chattogram University (CU)’s Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department Professor and Researcher Dr Md Al-Forkan disclosed these at a press conference held at CU Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on Monday.

He said that they collected 42 samples from seven different labs of Chattogram for analyzing and found two Indian variants, three Nigerian, four United Kingdom and 33 South African variants.

The samples were collected in last month, said the professor.

The Indian variant carrying patients were from the city area and Fatikchhari upazila. They didn’t go to India and get in touch of anybody came from India recently, said the researcher.

He suspected that the community transmission of Indian variant has been started in Chattogram. CU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology department and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) jointly conducted the research.
