A Malancha Paribahan bus caught fire in the capital’s Sutrapur area on Tuesday evening, the latest in a series of fire incidents in public transports starting early Monday.

Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer at Sutrapur Fire Station, confirmed the incident, saying that a unit from the station later doused the flames.

He could not confirm the reason behind the fire or the casualties.

Awami League (AL) activists carried out a series of arson attacks and hurled crude bomb since early Monday, ahead of Wednesday's announcement of the verdict date in an ICT lawsuit against AL chief Sheikh Hasina.

On Tuesday afternoon, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali said 50 suspects were arrested in 17 cases over the previous 24 hours in connection with the sabotage attempts.
