Bashundhara Group stands by landless people in Nilphamari

Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate, distributed relief materials among poor and landless people in various spots in Nilphamari on Saturday as part of its corporate social responsibility to reduce sufferings of the destitute amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kaler Kantho, a reputed Bengali national daily of Bashundhara Group, handed over the relief materials to the poor through the newspaper’s social organisation Shuvasangha.

Several hundred landless people, who live in Bandar-Kharibari and Ruphara government shelter houses in Dimla upazila, received food and other essential items.

Manjur Begum, one of the recipients of the relief, said “I have no house. Now, I live in the government’s shelter house. I earn my livelihood, working in other’s agricultural lands. Although I am old, I cook food by myself. I pray for Bashundhara Group for extending helping hand to me.”

Taher Uddin, who received relief items from Shuvasangha, reacted to the relief distribution in the same way.

“I live in the government shelter. I work in the cultivation fields pertaining to other people. My wife can’t work. We are keeping body and soul together. Relief distribution of Bashundhara Group is a great support for us.”

Kharibari Union Parishad Chairman Rabiul Islam Likhon, Shuvasangha Director Zakaria Jaman, its central committee General Secretary Shamim Al Mamun, member Sharif Mahadi Ashraf Jibon, the organisation’s Domar upazila chief adviser Prof Laila Anjuman Banu, Kaler Kantho Domar correspondent Abu Fattah Kamal, Dimla sub-assistant Engr Md Ferdous, union member Jewel Hossain Rabbu Mia and Abul Kalam Azad were present on the occasion among others.
