Bashundhara Group spreads joy among the underprivileged

Husband of Julekha Begum in Sreepur upazila’s Satkhamair village under Gazipur district has been missing for around 18 years. Her only son does not look after her.

Julekha, 57, managed her bread and butter by working as housemaid for years but she has been suffering from various diseases for the last two years. One of her hand is paralysed as well. She now survives with the assistance of others.

Tears of joy were rolling down her cheeks as she received Eid gifts from Bashundhara Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates of the country, at Satkhamair High School field on Sunday.

“No one has ever gifted me so many things. I have no worry this time during Eid. May Allah bless the person, who presented me these goods, with long life,” she said.

Durlovpur village’s Sofiron Khatun’s day labourer husband died a couple of years ago. Her only son is physically challenged. She does not find any difference between Eid and other days.

But this year the gifts provided by Bashundhara Group have brought happiness for her. She said, “I am so glad to receive so many things. I will pray for the person who gave these goods so that Allah gives him happiness.”

Julekha or Sofiron are not alone. Many poor, widows, physically or mentally challenged persons, beggars, day labourers, and hawkers of Sreepur municipality, Bormi, Telihati and Kawraid unions have received the gifts provided by Bashundhara Group.

They have expressed their happiness after receiving the gifts.

These gift items were distributed among them at Satkhamair High School field on Sunday maintaining social distancing and health guidelines.

Prior to the distribution of gifts, a discussion was held where office in-charge of Sreepur Police Station Khondoker Imam Hossain was present as the chief guest.

Sreepur Press Club’s founding president SM Mahful Hasan Hannan and Gazipur District Awami League leader Sheikh Abdul Latif attended the programme as special guests.

Headmaster of Satkhamair High School Liakat Ali Dulal and Sreepur Upazila Shubhosangho’s acting president Majharul Islam Hiron, among others, took part in the function.

Khondoker Imam Hossain said, “The happiness of underprivileged people is evident on their face. There can be no better work than this. I thank Bashundhara Group for this noble initiative.”

Sheikh Abdul Latif said, “Bashundhara Group always works for the wellbeing of the country and its people. They took so many steps since the beginning of coronavirus pandemic last year. They donated Tk 10 crore to the Prime Minister’s fund.”

“Bashundhara family assisted numerous people across the country. If the able persons of the society stepped forward like Bashundhara Group, there could be no scarcity in the country. I thank them cordially,” he added.

A munajat was also offered seeking good health and long life of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
