A local Awami League leader was hacked to death by miscreants in Lalpur upazila of Natore on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Osman Gani Pramanik, 45, son of Akher Uddin, hailing from Kadamchilan Dangapara Chilan village of the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said the miscreants attacked Osaman at Dangapara Chilan Bazaar at around 8am when he went there to buy oil for his motorcycle. They hacked him indiscriminately and cut tendons of both hands and legs to ensure his death.
Meanwhile, Osman Gani was accused in a case filed over murder of former UP chairman of Kadimchilan Union Abdur Razzak.
Lalpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Ujjal Hossain said that police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
