Two women were hacked to death following a feud over a piece of land at Gangni Upazila of Meherpur on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Zakia Akter, 45, wife of Zahid Hossain, hailing from Sanghat village, and Josna Khatun 55, wife of Hafizul Islam, resident of Boalia village in Chuadanga.

The incident took place in Dari Para area of Sanghat village under the upazila around 11:00 am, our correspondent reports quoting police.

Mohibul Islam Wahid, executive director of an NGO named Sanghat Rural Development Agency, swooped on his sister Zakia, and sister-in-law Josna and started hacking them indiscriminately with a sharp weapon.

The attacker managed to flee, leaving them dead on the spot, police said quoting the witnesses.        

According to locals, there had been long standing disputes among them over their ancestral property.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Tajul Islam said efforts are underway to arrest the killer.
