Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said the authorities concerned have been working relentlessly to transform Dhaka into a smart, clean and green city.
“We have to talk less and work more to develop a smart, clean and green city,” he said while addressing a press briefing, marking his third year in office for a second term at DNCC in the capital on Saturday.
Asked about his performance, he said the city dwellers would judge his work.
The mayor shared his plan to make Dhaka as healthy, active and smart city in next two years.
“I am accountable to the people who vote me to serve the capital. In the last three years I tried to meet the promised initiatives. Many activities face setback due to corona pandemic and global situation,” he said.
Atiq said the corporation has already started initiative to expand online services. “We have made online platform of trade licence. It will open officially in July,” he said.
The mayor made a presentation on development of a hydro park at Kalyanpur retention pond. “We want to give a city where people can live without any stress. We have planned to renovate 24 parks for entertainment of citizens,” he said.
Regarding the auto signal system in Dhaka, mayor said that the city authority will sit with ministries concerned to find a ‘technical solutions’ to the traffic signals.
“We have brought software from abroad. The system will support vehicle to run within the lane. If anyone violate regulations, or run at an excessive speed, the system will send notification of legal steps against the owner of car analyzing the number plate,” Atiq added.
On complaint of extortion in Mirpur-10 intersection, Atiqul Islam affirmed his stance to take action against those behind the extortion in Shewrapara and Kazipara areas.
“Those who are involved in extortion will be arrested. I have already talked with DMP,” he said.
The mayor informed the media that the city corporation has canceled holidays of all staff of DNCC to face the challenges of cyclone Mocha.
Atiqul Islam took charge of DNCC on May 13 in 2020 after being elected mayor.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza was also present while Secretary Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique moderated the press conference.
