CHATTOGRAM: Fisheries Department of Chattogram division organised a workshop for journalists on ‘Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project’ (SCMFP) in the port city on Sunday.

A total of 35 journalists from divisional and district levels attended the workshop held at S Rahman Hall of Chattogram Press Club.

Chattogram Division Fisheries Department Deputy Director Md Abdus Sattar and the project Deputy Manager Adhir Chandra Das jointly conducted the event.

The speakers said there are 475 species of fishes in the coastal and sea area of Bangladesh.

Some five lakhs people living in coastal areas earn their livelihood by fishing with general and mechanised boats, they said.

However, the fishing activities are hampering the planned conservation and collection of the available fish resources, they observed.

They also laid emphasis on alternate professional opportunities for these fishermen.

Chattogram Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid and ntv Chattogram Bureau Chief Shamsul Hoque Haisari were present in the workshop, among others.
