Bangladesh Navy emerged champions in the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal 45th National Athletics competition that concluded at Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital on Wednesday. 

Navy secured a total of 49 medals, including 22 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals while Bangladesh Army finished runners-up with 42 medals including 11 gold, 19 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Air Force ended at third position with nine medals including three gold, one silver and five bronze medals.

On the third and last day of the tournament, BKSP athlete Sumaiya Dewan, who earlier clinched the title in the women’s 100m sprint on the first day, also clinched the title of women’s 200m.

The 17-year-old sprinter took 25.22 sec while Navy’s Shirin became second with the timing of 25.30 sec and Army’s Sharifa Khatun ended third with the timing of 25.69 sec.

Navy’s Rinki Bishwas made a new record of 10:25.30 sec in the women’s 3000m. She broke her previous record of 10:43.30 sec.

Navy’s Asif Bishwas and Shamsun Nahar Ratna adjudged the best men and women athletes.

The day’s gold medalists: men’s events – M Manjurul Molla (Tripple Jump), Azharul Islam (Discuss Throw), Rakibul Hasan (200m), Helal Sheikh (3000m Steeplechase),  Navy team (4*400m Relay Race), Masud Rana (400m Hurdles), Ariful Islam (800m); women’s events -- Rinki Bishwas (10000m and 3000m), Sumaiya Dewan (200m), Army team (4*400m Relay race), Tamanna Akter (400m Hurdles), Shamsun Nahar Ratna (800m).
