Fifth “Digital Bangladesh Day 2021” was observed through various programmes across the country on Sunday.

On December 12, 2008, Awami League president and later elected to prime minister Sheikh Hasina pledged to the nation to build “Digital Bangladesh” if elected to the government.

The day was introduced in 2018 remembering the day of this historic announcement.

With the theme “Digital Bangladesh-er Orjan, Upakrito Sakal Janagan”, the ICT Division chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.

The programmes included placing of floral wreaths at portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, award distribution, discussion, photo exhibition and cultural programmes.

In line with the national programmes, Bangladesh missions in abroad celebrated the day in different countries.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Digital Bangladesh Day 2021 and distributed Digital Bangladesh Awards at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka joining virtually.

On behalf of the prime minister, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak distributed crests, cheques and certificates among 24 Digital Bangladesh Award winners.

The recipients include DNCC and BGMEA in three categories -- best person, organisation and team -- in government and private levels.

PM's Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus received the award on behalf of the best team in technical field for developing and introducing the Covid-19 Surokhya App.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) won the Digital Bangladesh Award 2021 at the national level under the government institution category (general).
