Bangabandhu, Bangamata Gold Cup final round begins

The national phase (final rounds) of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National (U-17 boys) Gold Cup and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National (U-17 girls) Gold Cup began on Wednesday. 

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Muhammad Tajul Islam inaugurated the event in an opening ceremony at the Bir Sherestha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamlapur while State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell presided over the whole function.

In the opening day, Dhaka beat Barisal in a tie-breaker in their first match of Bangabandhu (U-17 boys) Gold Cup.

A total of 288 young booters (boys and girls) from 8 divisional teams are taking part in the final round of the competition. Among them, only 80 booters – 40 boys and 40 girls – will get 3-month training in BKSP.

Meanwhile, the first round (Upazila phase) of the competition kicked off at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium on March 29. A total of 86906 footballers, spilt into 4828 teams from 4571 Unions and 257 Municipalities, took part there. Later, some 20916 selected footballers, spilt into 1162 teams from 492 Upazilas, 29 City Corporations and 60 Municipalities, competed in the second round (District Phase). Then, some 2448 footballers, spilt into 68 teams from 64 districts and 4 Municipalities, competed in the third round (Divisional phase).
