Law enforcement agencies imposed strict security measures at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka to prevent unrest and untoward incidents following the anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s death.
Members of the police, RAB, Ansar, and joint forces were seen on high alert from Friday (15 August) morning.
Despite the security measures, several individuals attempting to pay tribute at the site reportedly faced obstruction, harassment, and physical assault.
Political activists from various parties were seen gathered near the premises. Reports emerged that some visitors were chased away and beaten when they arrived to pay their respects.
Multiple incidents of people being chased off were reported throughout the morning. No one was visibly allowed to offer tributes in memory of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the site.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone, Jisanul Haque, stated: “We are maintaining maximum vigilance to prevent any chaos or sabotage. A sufficient number of police personnel have been deployed.”
