CHATTOGRAM: The health department started administering Covid-19 vaccines to slum dwellers in the port city on Sunday after the vaccination campaign began in the capital last Tuesday.

Around 2,000 residents of Jhautala slum in the city’s Khulshi area were vaccinated on the first day. The other slum dwellers will be brought under the vaccination coverage gradually, said sources concerned at the District Civil Surgeon Office.

Besides, the vaccination of transgender people will begin today.

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Asif Khan said they started the vaccination programme for the slum dwellers and the third-gender people to protect them from the coronavirus.

They allocated Astrazeneca vaccines for the campaign, he said.
