Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will remain suspended from 12:00 am to 8:00 am every day from December 9 to March 10 next year due to the ongoing construction work of the third terminal.

Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director of the airport, informed this on Wednesday.

A new high-speed connecting taxiway is being constructed to facilitate the construction of the 3rd terminal of the airport. The construction work will continue at night and therefore the runway would be closed during the renovation period, said the HSIA director.

However, it will not affect the normal operations of the airport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said. CAAB also said the Osmani International Airport in Sylhet would be used if an emergency landing is required at that time.

The winter flight schedule has already been activated at HSIA amid dense fog.

During every winter, a special flight schedule is followed from November. Dense heavy fog affects the visibility of the runway from 2:00 am to 8:00-9:00 during the winter.

In special circumstances, the flight has to be sent to the nearest airport.
