A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered national cricketer Nasir Hossain, his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi and her mother Sumi Akhter to appear before the court on October 31 in a case filed by Tammi’s first husband Rakib Hasan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Rakib’s lawyer seeking arrest warrant against Nasir and Tamima in the case.
PIB submitted the probe report mentioning that the marriage between Nasir and Tamima is illegal as she is still the wife of businessman Rakib Hasan.
Tamima did not divorce Rakib and he also did not receive any divorce notice, said the report adding that she made a fake divorce notice and published it in different media, the report said.
She is still Rakib’s wife and marrying anyone without divorcing her existing husband is illegal and it is a punishable offence, it said.
The PBI said that Tamima’s marriage to Nasir is void, since her divorce with Rakib was not valid. The divorce documents that were shown have been forged.
Earlier, on February 24, the court ordered the PBI to conduct a probe following a case filed by Rakib Hasan claiming that Tamima married Nasir without divorcing him which is illegal under religious and state laws.
However, on the same day, Nasir at a press briefing told journalists that they got married after Tamima divorced Rakib.
Supporting Nasir’s claim, Tamima, who works as a cabin crew in a foreign airline, claimed that she had divorced Rakib in 2017.
Rakib came to know about Tamima’s marriage with Nasir after their wedding photos went viral on social media on February 14, the case statement reads.
Later, Rakib filed a general diary (GD) with Uttara West police station. The GD says he was married to Tamima for 11 years, they have an eight-year-old daughter from the marriage, and that she had not divorced him.
