Bangladesh has witnessed a slight fall in both deaths and infections from coronavirus over the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

During the period, 212 Covid-19 patients died and 13,862 infections were registered in the country.

Earlier on Thursday, 239 virus fatalities and 15,271 cases were detected in the country. Highest 16,230 cases were reported on July 28 and record 258 deaths on July 27.

With the fresh cases, the number of total infections has risen to 1,240,115 with a daily positivity rate of 30.77 percent while the overall infection rate has risen to 16.08 percent.

Besides, the national death toll has jumped to 20,467 with a case fatality rate of 1.65 percent.

The country has seen more than 100 single-day deaths from the virus for 34 consecutive days. A total of 3,26,857 people were infected with the virus and 5,964 corona patients died across the country in 30 days of July which is the highest compared to any same period during the pandemic.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the coronavirus situation is deteriorating in the capital as highest corona deaths and infections were registered in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.

Among the 212 deceased, 119 were men and 93 were women. Of them, one corona patient was aged between 11-20, five were 21-30, 15 between 31-40, 25 between 41-50, 48 between 51-60, 69 between 61-70, 32 within 71-80, 11 were between 81-90 and six between 91-100 years.

Of the 212 fresh deaths, 65 were reported in Dhaka division while 53 in Chattogram, 13 in Rajshahi, 36 in Khulna, eight in Mymensingh, nine in Rangpur, 17 in Sylhet and 11 in Barishal division.

Among the 13,862 new cases, 5,059 were logged in Dhaka division while 704 in Mymensingh, 4,021 in Chattogram, 791 in Rajshahi, 954 in Rangpur, 793 in Khulna, 738 in Barishal and 802 in Sylhet division.

Around 13,975 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,064,195. The recovery rate has stood at 85.81 percent.

A total of 45,044 samples, out of 48,568 collected, were tested at 648 labs in the country during the period. With this, 7,709,914 samples have so far been tested across the country.

The occupancy of general and ICU beds in Covid-19 units and hospitals across the country has been increasing day by day while a number of hospitals are now overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients.
