163 more die, 11,525 infected

Daily corona positivity rate rises to 31.46pc

Despite the ongoing countrywide lockdown imposed to check the spread of coronavirus, infections from the deadly pathogen continue to rise with record 11,525 cases reported in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Corona infections hit a new record with 11,525 cases reported in the last 24 hours till 8:00am while 163 more people died of the virus during the period, said a report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The single-day corona detection rate has increased to 31.46 percent.

Earlier, the country recorded highest 164 corona deaths and 9,964 infections on July 5.

The country saw more than hundred single-day deaths from the contagious virus for the last 10 consecutive days while daily detection of over 6,000 cases for the nine days in a row.  The highest number of corona deaths was reported again in Khulna division while the highest infection cases in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours. Kushtia district saw  the highest 16 deaths during the time.

Of the 11,525 new corona cases, 5,097 were reported in Dhaka division, 334 in Mymensingh, 1,540 in Chattogram, 1,225 in Rajshahi, 618 in Rangpur, 1,865 in Khulna, 459 in Barishal and 387 in Sylhet division, the DGHS data said.

Of the total 163 deaths, 45 were reported in Dhaka division, 24 in Chattogram, 24 in Rajshahi, 46 in Khulna, six in Barishal, 11 in Rangpur, five in Mymensingh and two in Sylhet division.

Some 11,525 cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the total number to 9,66,406. The daily infection rate has risen to 31.46 percent during the time.

A total of 15,392 corona patients died in Bangladesh with 163 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. The death rate has remained unchanged with  1.59 percent in the country.

Around 5,433 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of people recovered to 8,44,515 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has declined to 87.39 percent.

The DGHS said infection detection rate has also risen as 14.22 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with corona till the date while 31.46 percent samples diagnosed with the virus in a day.

A total of 36,631 samples, out of 38,039 collected, were tested at 605 labs in the country during the period, the report said. A total of 67,94,193 samples have been tested so far across the country.

The first corona case was detected in the country on March 8 last year while the first death from the highly contagious virus was recorded on March 18 the same year.

Both infections and fatalities started to decline from the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year. But corona deaths and cases started rising further from March 10.

Hospital sources said country’s corona situation has been worsening day by day, particularly in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.

Experts said corona infections continue to rise in the country as people are defying the lockdown and not properly following the health guidelines, including wearing of face masks.
