Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has busted an adulterated bitumen factory at Rajendrapur in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district.
Two employees of the factory were arrested during a drive conducted by a mobile court of RAB-11. Later, they were sentenced to different jail terms.
On a tip-off, the mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate SM Manjurul Haque, conducted the raid on the factory, M/S Alam and Company, on Tuesday.
Major Md Hasan Shahriar, second in command of RAB-11, revealed the information to the Daily Sun on Thursday.
He said Company Commander of Crime Prevention Company-2 under RAB-11 Major Talukder Nazmus Shakib was present during the drive.
Shakib said the factory had long been selling refined waste of Mobil lubricant as bitumen to unscrupulous contractors.
He said the elite force arrested Abdul Mannan, 48, son of Md Alam Miah of Gunobati village in Chauddagram upazila, and Forkan Mahmud, 23, son of Mohammad Mostafa Mia of Nangalkot upazila in the district during the drive.
The mobile court sentenced Mannan to one year’s imprisonment and jailed Forkan for six months, he said.
Apart from adulterated bitumen, the factory had been manufacturing substandard diesel and Mobil by using old Mobil, bleaching powder and sulfuric acid and marketing those for a long time, the RAB official said.
