CHATTOGRAM: A fire broke out at a container carrying oxygen supplement at a yard of Chattogram Port on Saturday.
Sources said the container kept at yard no. 8 near Gate no. 4 of the port caught fire at around 9:00am.On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 10:00am, said Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), Chattogram Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Newton Das.
The cause of the fire and damages to the property will be ascertained after investigation, he said.
Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Md Omar Faruk told the daily sun that the container was containing oxygen supplement sodium percarbonate tablets.
Smoke was emitting from the container due to excessive heat. Being informed, the fire fighters went to the spot and doused the fire, he said.
Operational activity was not hampered due to the fire incident and a four-member committee was formed to investigate the matter, said the secretary.
The committee headed by deputy director of security department was asked to submit the report within seven working days, he added.
