Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by two wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, reports NDTV.

Chasing a target of 160 runs, RCB won the match on the final ball of the match, scoring 160 for eight in 20 overs. Despite losing an early wicket, opener Virat Kohli gave RCB a good start, scoring 33 runs off 29 balls. Before losing his wicket, the skipper also made a short and beneficial partnership with new acquisition Glenn Maxwell, who slammed 39 off 28 balls.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers also made a match-winning contribution, hitting 48 runs in 27 balls. Despite losing his wicket in the penultimate over, the South African cricketer's knock was enough to put the win on RCB's plate, with Harshal Patel scoring the winning run on the last of their inning. Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen were in good form for MI, taking two wickets apiece.

Meanwhile, Trent Boult and Krunal Pandya registered a dismissal each. On the other hand, Mumbai scored 159 for nine in 20 overs, setting a 160-run target for RCB. Opener Chris Lynn was in good form, slamming 49 off 35 balls.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Ishan Kishan (28) also made decent contributions to their side's total. Harshal Patel was the star with the ball for RCB, taking five wickets. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson and Washington Sundar registered a dismissal each.
