Woman, son jailed for 10 yrs in drug case

BRAHMANBARIA: A court here on Wednesday sentenced 10-year imprisonment to a woman and her son in a drug case was filed in 2017.

The court also fined them Taka 5,000 each. In default they have to languish six months more in jail.

Additional Sessions Judge of Brahmanbaria District 1st Court Judge Sabera Sultana Khanam handed down this verdict at 11:30 am on Wednesday.

The convicts in the case are Jharna Begum, 54, wife of Kala Mia of Marichakandi in Bancharampur upazila in the district and her son Sumon, 28.

The verdict was delivered in absence of Jharna Begum as she was on run for long time.

According to the case details, members of RAB-14’s Bhairab camp detained Jharna Begum and her son Sumon with 40,500 pieces of Yaba tablets during a raid conducted on November 8, 2017.
