Four members of a family were killed in a fire incident at Purbachal in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Masum Mia, 40, his wife Shima Akhter, 33, their sons--Russell, 17, and Rahmatullah, 10.

Fortunately, their daughter Mahfuza Akhter, 19, remains unhurt as she could manage to come out of the house during the incident.

Masum, an easy-bike driver by profession, was living with his family in a tin-shed house.

Neighboring witness Moktar Hossain said the house caught fire as the electricity line over the house fell on it, causing fire at around 9:30pm.

None dared to help them as the fire engulfed the house quickly, he said.

Later, firefighters reached the spot and doused the fire, but meantime the four persons burned alive.

Uddipon Bhokto, station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Narayanganj's Purbachal, said the incident happened after two live wires of the Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) and Palli Bidyut suddenly fell on the tin roof of the house that caused fire. Nur Hossain, maternal uncle of Masum, filed a case with Rupganj Police Station.

Mohsinul Quader, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the bodies were sent to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital for autopsy.
