There will be no annual examinations at the secondary schools and madrasas (class six to nine) this year due to coronavirus pandemic, said Education Minister Dipu Moni on Wednesday.
“The students will be given promotion to next classes and there will be no results, no grading,” she made the disclosure at a virtual press conference.Dipu Moni said National Curriculum Textbook Board (NCTB) will prepare a brief syllabus for the class six-nine students, which can be completed within 30 working days.
The students will have an opportunity to study less because of this brief syllabus prepared by the NCTB, she said adding that assignments will be given to the students every week and giving assignments and their submission can be done through online.
The government will take next course of action if there is any shortcomings of the students but evaluation of assignments will have no effect on promotion of the students to next classes, the minister added.
She also said none of the educational institutions throughout the country will be reopened in the next month as all the institutions except Kawmi Madrashas which have remained closed since March 17 due to corona pandemic.
“It is unlikely to reopen the educational institutions across the country in the upcoming month of November amid fear of the second wave of coronavirus,” she said
The educational institutions, which were reopened in various countries across the globe, have been forced to shut down again amid the latest spike of the corona infections, she added.“We have also discussed the matter (school reopening) with our national consultantation committee on the corona pandemic”, she said quoting as saying the experts opinion on viral infection ahead of the winter season.
The decision on reopening the educational institutions will be taken only after the risk of the viral infection will come to a tolerable level, the minister said.
Dipu Moni also urged the students to carry out their study through online to prepare themselves for the upcoming SSC and equivalent exams scheduled to be started in February and HSC and equivalent exams in April.
About admission into public universities, she said holding admission tests through cluster system are now a demand of the time amid the corona pandemic.
She said discussions are under way to hold the exams through a cluster system and that decision will be taken in this regard after discussion with the authorities of the universities.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nawfel also spoke at the virtual press conference.
