Restrictions toughened in Khulna to check spread of corona

KHULNA: The district administration here, with the assistance of the armed forces and other law-enforcement agencies, has intensified restrictions on movements and public gatherings to stem the spread of coronavirus in the region.

The ongoing efforts include motivation of the common people to raise their awareness, distribution of leaflets and masks, spraying antibiotics on roads and in public places, conducting hand-washing and cleanliness campaigns and maintaining social distancing to prevent contagion of COVID-19, reports BSS.

Meanwhile, to prevent the community transmission of COVID-19, a view-exchange meeting was held at the Circuit House conference room here on Sunday afternoon with the District Imam Parishad and prominent Olamaikarams (Islamic Scholars) to raise awareness about the prevention of the spreading of Covid-19 in Khulna. Khulna district administration and Islamic Foundation in Khulna division jointly organised the meeting maintaining social distancing.

Divisional Commission Dr Muhammad Anwar Hossain Howlader addressed the meeting as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Helal Hossain in the chair.

The meeting decided to shut down all shops, kitchen markets after 5.00pm every day until further notice in the district and metropolis of Khulna.

However, medicine stores, hospitals and clinics will remain open while the city’s Rupsa and evening kitchen market (Sandhya Bazar) will remain open till 9.00pm. DC Md. Helal Hossain asked the people not to gather in groups.

Besides, non-essential movement on the roads and other public places has been discouraged to contain the spread of the virus.

The government has provided 490 tonnes rice and Tk 12 lakh to around 55,000 poor families in the district to overcome their financial hardship caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
