BNP demanded that the Election Commission (EC) should not use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections scheduled for February 1.

The party submitted a letter signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in this regard on Tuesday.

A four-member committee led by BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury visited the EC and held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.  “We hope as a constitutional body the EC will take steps to hold the February 1 election in an impartial and transparent way after fulfilling our demand,” they said in the letter.  During the meeting, the BNP delegates also demanded re-election in Chattogram-8 constituency using ballot papers instead of EVMs.
