CHATTOGRAM: Deputy Education Minister Mahiubul Hasan Chowdhury called upon the authorities of private universities to change the mindset of only ‘doing business.’

He made the call while addressing as the chief guest at the second convocation of private Premier University at Navy Convention Hall in the city on Sunday.

Addressing the programme, the deputy minister said though many private universities have contribution in higher education of the country, many also lack any role in this regard.

“This is the time to eye on those which have no contribution in creation of knowledge,” he said.

Laying emphasis on changing the mindset of only doing business, Mahibul informed that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina passed the private university act after assuming power in 2008 to resist the trade centring education in the private universities.

“If the law were not enacted, the government would not be able to interfere in the activities of private universities,” he said.

Mahibul also called upon the graduates to be united for the sake of the country despite having difference in thoughts and spirit.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah suggested the students not to run behind job and offer job to others being an entrepreneur.

A total of 1,112 students received certificates at the convocation while 11 graduates were awarded medals for outstanding performances.
