Fasting people throng the Iftar Bazar at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Friday to buy Old Dhaka’s traditional iftar items from a wide variety of items brought together under one roof. – SUN PHOTO

Though it was drizzling in the afternoon, the traders at ifter bazar of International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital experienced overwhelming crowd on holiday (Friday).

People from different walks of life thronged there to buy iftar items of Old Dhaka.  

Popular restaurants and eateries of the city’s old part have been brought under one roof for residents of new Dhaka by the initiative. 

People started to come at ICCB premises after Jummah prayer on the day and roamed around the Hall-2 to purchase delicious iftar items.

Delicacies available at iftar bazar include different items made from beef, mutton, chicken grill, kebab, jilapee, juice, birani, fish items, vegetable, porata, ruti and so on.  

Stationary and clothing stores are also available at the iftar bazar arena, so that the customers can obtain necessary containers to pick food items and attire items ahead of largest festival of Muslims Eid-ul-Fitr.

Salesmen at different stalls said most of the buyers were attracted by beef and mutton items while among the sweet items, the jipalee drew more attention of the visitors.    

Iftar items of popular eateries like Bashundhara Food and Beverage, Ibrahim Catering, Dilab, Rancon Hospitality, Khan Kitchen, Badhon’s Home Recipe, Foodle, Rangdhanu Rasui, Midnight Restaurant, Kinle, Sky Thai Food and Master Shef Surat Ali etc are available on the ICCB premises. 

One can buy their favourite food items at reasonable prices at the iftar bazaar where doi bora is available at Tk 65 per piece, garlic nun at Tk 70, plain nun 40, plain porata at Tk 40, special beef item called lahuri at Tk 350 per kilogram, chicken role per piece at Tk 110, chicken suchlike at Tk 70, beef kebab at Tk 160, chicken tikka at Tk 175, boti kebab at Tk 150, rolled chicken roast at Tk 650 and beef bot is selling at Tk 1200 per kg.

Sale of other popular items, including halim, is also high. Mutton halim is being sold at Tk 800 per bowl while beef halim at Tk 600. Among Biryani items, mutton kacchi is available at Tk 350, shahi morog polau at Tk 350 and beef tehari is selling at Tk 300 per serving.   

Of the juice items, jafrani nut lacchi is available at Tk 400 per kilogram, shahi borhani at Tk 250, shahi labang at Tk 300 and dry beef curry is selling at Tk 1200 per kilogram.

Ahmed Maruf Billah, a resident of Dhanmondi, came to the ICCB Ifter Bazar along with friend to taste the all traditional food under one roof.

“We found most of the iftar items under open sky which seems unhealthy. At the ICCB, all the food producers present their iftar items in hygienic way which is unique in the city,” said Maruf Billah.   

There is also sufficient space for car parking while devotees also get opportunities for offering prayers at the venue.
