Four convicts file appeals against HC verdict

Lt Col (sacked) Tarek Sayeed Mohammad and three other death row convicts in Narayanganj seven killings case filed appeals against the High Court verdict that confirmed their capital punishment.

Three others appellants are Maj (sacked) Arif Hossain, Lt Commander (sacked) SM Masud Rana and former city ward councillor Nur Hossain.

All of them are in jail following their conviction and they filed the appeals with concerned section of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday.

On August 22, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentences for 15 people, including former city council councillor Nur Hossain and three sacked RAB officers, for the gruesome murders of seven persons in Narayanganj.

The court commuted the death penalties of 11 others to life imprisonment in the two cases filed over the sensational murders. Other death-row convicts include former sub-inspector Purnenda Bala, former Havildar Emdadul Haque, AB Md Arif Hossain, former Lance Nayek Hira Mia and Belal Hossain.

The lifers are RAB members Asaduzzaman Nur, Sergeant Enamul Kabir, councillor Nur Hossain’s cohort Ali Mohammad, Mizanur Rahman, Rahom Ali, Abul Bashar, Mortuja Zaman, Selim, Shahjahan, Jamal Uddin and Sanaullah.
