‘Govt doesn’t control agro commodity price’

Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry were informed on Wednesday that the government does not control the price of the agricultural commodities except paddy, rice, wheat and tobacco.

It was also mentioned at the meeting that the price of potato and other agricultural products are being controlled automatically based on demand and supply of the products, reports BSS.

The information disclosed at 27th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with Committee Chairman M Makbul Hossain in the chair, a press release said.

Committee members Abdul Mannan, M Mamunur Rashid Kiron, AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen, M Nurul Islam Omar and Advocate Umme Kulsum Smriti, among others, attended the meeting.

The Department of Agriculture Marketing usually tries to stable the commodity price by market monitoring and imposing market linkage system.

Senior ministry and parliament secretariat officials including senior secretary of the agriculture ministry, among others, also attended the meeting.
