The Election Commission (EC) plans to use existing CCTV cameras installed in schools and colleges as surveillance equipment at polling centres for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

To move forward with the plan, the EC has requested information from the respective educational institutions that will serve as polling centres.

According to a directive signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury on Thursday, field-level election officials have been instructed to prepare a list of polling centres that already have CCTV cameras installed.

The directive said that officials must submit both hard and soft copies of the list, following the prescribed format, by 12 November.
