Eight members of Madhabkhali union parishad in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali expressed no-confidence against their chairman Kazi Mizanur Rahman Lavlu.

They took such stand allegedly due to irregularities, corruption, embezzlement of money and immoral attitudes of the chairman.

The UP members also submitted a copy of no-confidence to the Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali.

The eight members confirmed their no-confidence at a press conference held at Press Club in Patuakhali on Wednesday.

Those who signed no-confidence are Md Monir Mojumdar of ward-8, Md Ujjal Mridha of ward-6, M Mohasin Hawlader of , ward-4, Md Taslim of ward-3, Sirajul Islam of ward-5 and Atiya Akter (reserved) of wards 4, 5 and 6.

Receiving written allegations, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Md Nur Kutubul Alam assured the members of necessary measures in this regard.

According to press conference, Mizanur Rahman has not held any meeting after taking responsibility as chairman in 2021 but he forced the members to sign regulations.

Mizanur extorts residents in the name of issuing new holding-numbers to their houses. Abusing mobile SIM cards of poor people, the chairman withdrew government fund for employment of destitute (annual employment of 40 days to rural poor.)

Even he realized taxes worth lakhs of taka from people through village police and swindled it. A portion of money was to be given to UP members as allowance but chairman misappropriated it. He took Tk 7,000 from the recipients of maternity allowance for destitute women as office charge. He also takes Tk 25,000 to Tk 30,000 from people in condition for sanctioning deep tube well. Thus, he also embezzled money showing development works in the union.

Mizanur, also president of union Awami League, said the allegations against him are false and fabricated.

“Some BNP affiliated UP members are trying to tarnish my images bringing false allegations,” he said.

About this, Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Mirzaganj Sayema Hasan said “No-confidence in chairman of Madhabkhali union parishad has been submitted by members to the Deputy Commissioner. Step will be taken as per his (DC’s) order.”

Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Md Nur Kutubul Alam said “Eight members of Madhabkhali union parishad submitted a letter to me expressing no-confidence in their chairman. Necessary measures will be taken after investigation into the allegation.”
