BIBC-WICCI role crucial to integrate women in mainstream economy: Speaker Shirin

Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP said, Bangladesh-WICCI Award will inspire women entrepreneurs to work with more enthusiasm.

The partnership between Bangladesh-India Business Council (BIBC) and Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) is working on economic advancement and empowerment by creating women entrepreneurs, she said.

She was speaking as the chief guest at the 'Bangladesh-WICCI Awards Night 2021' organised by BIBC of WICCI at Le Meridien in the capital on Tuesday.

BIBC and WICCI are playing an effective role in expanding bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India, she further said noting that in order to ensure equitable, inclusive and sustainable development, women, half of the total population needs to integrate into the mainstream of the economy.

The Speaker handed over the 'Bangladesh-WICCI Award 2021' to 12 eminent persons and 3 organizations during the occasion.

Due to the digital benefits, women entrepreneurs have been able to carry out their business activities virtually during the Covid period. The Speaker called upon all to work in a co-ordinated manner to utilise the potential of women in the national life.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq MP graced the occasion as the special guest while FBCCI President Md. Jasim Uddin presided over the function.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami also spoke on the occasion.

BIBC President Mantasha Ahmed made introductory remarks on the occasion. BIBC vice-president Rumana Doula gave a vote of thanks at the event. Various dignitaries and media persons were also present on the occasion.
