Govt cancels Covid-19 activities of 3 hospitals in city

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has cancelled Covid-19 activities of three hospitals in the capital and asked the authorities concerned to run treatment services for general patients.

The ministry took the decision following a report of the daily sun mentioning that some Covid-19 dedicated hospitals might be opened for general patients.

The cancelled hospitals are Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital, Maternal & Child Health Training & Research Institute, Lalkuthi, Mirpur and Bashundhara COVID-19 Isolation Hospital in the capital.

The office order of the health ministry issued by Bilkis Begum, deputy secretary (government health management-1) of health services division of the health and family welfare ministry made the announcement on Thursday.

“We have stopped Covid-19 treatment activities in these three hospitals. The Dhaka Mohanagar hospital and Lalkuthi maternal hospital will run their non-Covid-19 activities as usual,” Bilkis Begum told daily sun.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque recently hinted that some Covid-19 hospitals would be opened for non-Covid-19 patients as many beds are lying vacant due to lack of corona infected patients in the hospitals.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of coronavirus infection cases has also been declining in the country for the last few weeks.
