At least 17 shops were gutted in a divested fire incident at a two-storey market in the city’s outskirt Ashulia on Sunday night.
The fire was ignited at Abdul Aziz Market in Ashulia in Savar at around 7:45 pm. Three fire fighting units brought the fire under control after one hour of hectic effort.Confirming the matter, Anwarul Haque, Commander of Fire Service Dhaka-4 (Savar, Ashulia, Dhamrai) Zone told media that the fire is under control but not doused completely. Smokes have been coming out of the shops.
However, the reason behind the fire and the estimation of damages were not confirmed immediately.
Abdul Aziz, owner of the market, told reporters that 26 shops were housed on the first floor of the market. Among them 17 were burned.
