BPL Football: Brothers beat Farashganj 1-0

Brothers Union moved up to the 8th slot from 10th in the points table of the 12-team Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football after a solitary goal victory against Farashganj Sporting Club in the 21st round match at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.


Brothers Union forward Syo Zunapio (Congo) scored the match winner in the 40th minute by a right-footed volley from the top of the six-yard box, off a back pass of midfielder Masud Rana from the right side of the box, 1-0.


Brothers Union had an opportunity to double the lead in the 68th minute, which was a back-hill attempt of forward Ntim Twum Frank’s (Ghana), from right-inside the six-yard box off a cross of defender Salahuddin form right side, saved by goalie Mamun Arif, reports UNB. 


Mamun Arif took a free kick for his side in the 93rd minute, but Brothers goalie Sujon Chowdhury was alert enough to fist away the ball over the crosspiece.  


Farashganj SC had couple of opportunities to level the lead in the 2nd half. In the 59th minute, Nigerian forward Chinedu Mathew took a right footed shot from the top of the box, which went straight to Brothers goalie. Substitute midfielder Zohirul Islam’s aim-less grounder attempt from the side-post rolled out before the goal mouth as no one was there to connect the ball, off a midfielder Shamim from left side. 


Earlier in the first half, Brothers Union missed an opportunity in the 32nd minute as forward Ariful Islam Shanto’s right footed power-packed shot, from 35 yards, saved by Farashganj SC goalie.


Farashganj SC could have taken the lead in the 18th minute, but their midfielder Juwel Mallik’s aim to fire the net thru the right corner of the post denied by Brothers goalie Sujon Chowdhury.        


With the day’s result, Brothers Union collected 19 points from 21 outings, having four wins, seven draws and 10 losses, while bottom-run Farashganj Sporting Club remained on their previous collection of 14 pints also from 21 matches with three wins, five draws and 13 losses in the 10th edition of the league.
