State Minister for Telecommunication Tarana Halim on Friday said that the government will be able to launch the country’s first broadcast satellite Bangabandhu-1 on December 16, 2016 as 50 percent work of the satellite has been completed.
Tarana made the observation while speaking at a press briefing at the BTCL office in Gulshan area of the capital.
“We are hopeful to finish the satellite by the deadline as the French firm, Thales Alenia Space, has completed 50 percent work of the project,” she said.
Bangabandhu-1, a satellite meant for communication and broadcast services is so far the most sophisticated technological project undertaken by Bangladesh.

Of the amount, some Tk 1,652.44 crore is from foreign loans and the government will supply Tk 1,315.51 crore.
