Awami League leader Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday alleged that Khaleda Zia is conspiring to topple the government in an undemocratic way.
“In 2013 and 2014, Khaleda Zia had wanted to capture power through terrorist acts and burning people to death. But, people didn’t respond to her drive. Now she’s saying the government will be dislodged soon,” he said.
Hasan Mahmud, publicity and publication secretary of ruling party, said this while addressing a press conference at Awami League president’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.
He said the present government has been formed through an election, and the next election will be held in 2019. “Khaleda is talking about the fall of the government well before its tenure come to an end and that means she is conspiring to unseat the government in an undemocratic way,” he added.
In reply to a question, the AL leader said their party will have programmes on January 5 to mark ‘Democracy Saving Day’ and the programmes will be announced later.
Meanwhile, BNP has decided to hold a rally in the city on Tuesday to observe January 5 as ‘Democracy Killing Day’ registering the party’s protest against 10th parliamentary elections held on that day in 2014.
