Experienced campaigner Rumana Ahmed failed to make a cut in the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad on Thursday that saw the return of Sobhana Mostary, Shathi Rani and Disha Biswas, who weren't part of the last Asia Cup squad. Uncapped Taj Nehar has earned her maiden call-up.
However, Rumana Ahmed, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Ishma Tanjim, Sabikun Nahar Jesmin and Shorifa Khatun, who were part of the Asia Cup touring party in Sri Lanka, failed to retain their places.
“I think the way Rumana bat does not suit the requirement of T20,” BCB women wing’s chief selector Sazzad Ahmed told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Sazzad added that they have asked Rumana and veteran Salma Khatun whether they want to play a farewell game as the board is willing to arrange for it.
It is understood none of them agreed when they were approached in this regard.

Apart from that, the selection of Subhana Mustary raised quite a few eyebrows considering she is yet to prove her worth in the international scene, making 338 runs in 38 T20Is with an average of 11.65.
“Actually Sobhana Mustary is one of the most talented players we have seen in recent years. It is true that we have given her a lot of chances but at the same time she has huge prospects. She is not performing the way we are expecting but the place where she plays at number three we don’t have many options. In the Asia Cup, Isma Tanjim played but she couldn’t do well there nor could she perform in the NCL and so we had to pick Sobhana Mustary,” said Sazzad.
Bangladesh, who are placed in Group B, will begin their World Cup campaign against Scotland on 3 October in Sharjah before they face England at the same venue on 5 October.
Bangladesh will face West Indies on 11 October in Sharjah before they play their last Group B match against South Africa on 13 October.
