In an effort to maintain a stable working environment and ensure the continuity of development and production in key industrial sectors, a large labour assembly was convened on Wednesday in Dhamrai, Dhaka.
The assembly, organised by the Dhaka District Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, sought to address the concerns and bolster relations between employers and workers while protecting against external threats.
The event, presided over by Din Islam, President of the District Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, featured remarks from prominent labour leaders.
Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and chief coordinator of the workers' wing, delivered the keynote address.
Other notable speakers included Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain, Dhaka District BNP President Abu Ashfaq, and BNP National Executive Committee Assistant Labour Secretary Humayun Kabir Khan.
Local leaders, including Dhamrai Upazila BNP President Tamiz Uddin and Savar Upazila BNP President Kafil Uddin, also spoke, alongside Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Publicity Secretary Manjurul Islam Manju and other labour leaders.
The assembly underscored the importance of unity among workers and employers in the face of external threats, vowing continued vigilance and resistance against efforts to destabilise the country’s industrial sector.
In the wake of the August 5 revolution, opportunistic collaborators of the defeated insurgent forces have reportedly attempted to instigate chaos in key sectors, including ports, road transport, pharmaceuticals, garments, and both government and private offices, they said.
These disruptions, aimed at industrial sabotage, have drawn the attention of 21 labour organisations, led by the BNP-affiliated Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal and the Joint Workers Council.
The groups have expressed their unequivocal support for legitimate labour movements advocating for fair wages and just demands, while actively working to identify and counter those responsible for the unrest.
The attempts to disrupt work have been linked to elements loyal to the remnants of the ousted Awami regime, who, according to labour leaders, have been attempting to incite further disruption since the August upheaval.
In response, the Jatiyabadi labour unions have formed “labour brigades” nationwide.
These brigades, composed of workers and pro-revolutionary forces, are tasked with safeguarding industrial establishments from masked agitators intent on sabotage.
