CCC places Tk1,981cr budget for FY25

The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has announced a proposed budget of Tk1,981.52 crore with a surplus of Tk8.16 crore for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
CCC Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury announced the budget for the fourth time after he took office as mayor at a budget session at Theatre Institute Chattogram (TIC) in the city’s Nandan Kanon area on Thursday.
A revised budget of Tk1,661 crore for FY24 was also approved at the CCC general meeting held before the budget session.
CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Ashraful Amin presided over the budget session while panel mayors and other officials also attended it.
According to the proposed budget, CCC is estimated to gain Tk1,026.45 crore income from its own resources and Tk952.05 crore from development grants, relief aids and other sources.
The budget allocated Tk609.76 crore for different things including salary, allowances, repair and maintenance, power, fuel, water, welfare, and Tk1,363.60 crore for development works, development of permanent resources, payment of debts, relief aid and other expenses.
Under these categories, CCC allocated Tk1,150.5 crore to different development works, Tk136.20 crore for payment of debts, Tk145.20 crore for developing permanent resources, Tk 4 crore for relief aid and Tk27.70 crore for other expenses.
During the budget announcement, Mayor Rezaul Karim outlined a set of plans to build Chattogram as a modern and smart city.
He expressed his optimism to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the city dwellers through the proposed budget.
The mayor, in his budget speech, said, “The accounting department of the corporation will be brought under complete automation from 2025.”
He also called upon the holding owners and government organisations to pay regular taxes for smooth services and development of the city.
