Dhaka WASA to raise water tariff by 10% from July

The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority has decided to raise the water tariff by 10% from 1 July this year.
As per the decision, the price per unit (1,000 litres) water for residential use will be hiked to Tk16.70 from existing Tk15.18, while for commercial users it will be raised to Tk46.20 from Tk42.
In a circular was issued on Wednesday, Dhaka WASA said that the decision was made in line with Section 22 of the WASA Act 1996 for price adjustment to inflation.
With the latest price revision, the capital’s water tariff increased for the 16th time in 16 years since the Awami League government came to power in 2009. The Dhaka WASA raised the water tariff twice in two years during the coronavirus pandemic.
