The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday sent a letter of protest to Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) regarding injuring two Bangladeshi fishermen by firing shots in the Naf River under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.
BGB-2 (Teknaf) Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “The Bangladeshi fishermen were returning to the Shah Porir Dwip jetty after fishing in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday morning. A Myanmar vessel was sailing into the Bay of Bengal through the estuary of the Naf River, approximately three kilometres south-east off the Shah Porir Dwip BOP, at that time.
“All of a sudden, the BGP men onboard the ship opened fire on the Bangladeshi fishermen’s trawler. Two fishermen were injured by bullets in the firing. They are currently receiving treatment.”
A protest letter was sent to the commanding officer of the concerned BGP-1 in Myanmar in this regard, Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed added.
