Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan feels that their bowling unit suffers due to the failure of their batting group, as they don’t put enough runs on the board to defend.
Bangladesh put up yet another abysmal batting performance, as they were bowled out for 178 runs in their first innings against Sri Lanka in their second and final Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday, which was the fifth successive innings where the hosts failed to cross the 200-run mark.

We totally failed with the bat: ZakirDebutant pacer Hasan Mahmud claimed four wickets in the last session to bring some kind of relief, as Sri Lanka ended the third day of the second Test on 102-6, with a lead of 456.
“All departments have to fire to win a Test match. I think batting is the most important of all. We can’t defend a total if we can’t put anything on the scoreboard. We need to have a decent score when we want to take 20 wickets. We haven’t been able to do it. We are discussing how to get better, but we are somehow failing altogether,” Zakir told reporters after the game.
“We totally failed with the bat. We couldn’t bat to our potential. We couldn’t play our roles. We couldn’t play as we were supposed to play,” he said.

“I can’t speak for others. Maybe a coaching staff can tell you. In my case, I think I should be more careful with my shot-selection. I am not giving an excuse. One has to be prepared coming into a Test match. I think we should grow this mentality on our side,” he said, adding that he doesn’t feel thinking about past failures is troubling them mentally.
“Actually, we don’t think like that (there have been so many batting failures). I try to take every day as a new day. I don’t know if others think like this but I think it is important to give more emphasis to what’s in front of us,” he said.

Zakir added that he is not ready to put wind as an excuse considering it made their life miserable in the middle more so with the incoming deliveries delivered by their opponent pacers.
“We have to face that particular delivery. I think the wind played a part in our wickets falling today. Everything else was okay, especially in terms of the wicket. We should have batted much better,” he added.
“I think our bowlers got help from the wind. It provided extra movement. They were 80-odd for six at one stage. Both sides got this help from the wind,” he said, adding that he is impressed with Hasan Mahmud’s performance.
“He bowled very well. It was his debut match. You all saw how much movement he got. It looked good that he bowled in the right areas,” he concluded.
