A Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Monday that they sent opener Liton Das to Pakistan so that if they got an approval from the Asian Cricket Council, they could field him immediately.

Liton, who was ruled out from the tournament for not recovering from fever and later was replaced by Anamul Haque Bijoy, left Dhaka on Monday to join his teammates in Lahore, Pakistan.

However, his participation now depends entirely on the ACC’s approval considering he had previously been replaced by another cricketer in the 17-member squad.

“We know there are certain protocols that need to be maintained. We have sent him so that if he is allowed to play in the tournament by the organizers, he can feature immediately,” said the official.

Bangladesh will face Pakistan in their opening match of the Super Four stage at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.
